Whether you are 5, 15 or 50 years old…have played before or just taking your instrument out of its case for the first time…whether you can read music or not…it is never too late to start playing!!
Violin, Viola, Cello Private Lessons
With five accomplished and talented teachers in violin, viola, and cello, students can become more proficient on their instruments through Stringendo’s private lessons program. Students can take 30, 45 or 60-minute lessons. Students do not need to be registered in an orchestra or fiddle program to take private lessons.

Daniel Frankhuizen (cello) has performed throughout the United States and abroad as a soloist, chamber musician, and in several pop groups, has served as principal cellist for the Empire Chamber Orchestra and Opera in the Ozarks Festival Orchestra. Daniel is the cellist of the Orvieto Piano Trio, a group that has performed classical piano trio literature across the United States, Canada, and Italy. In 2014 the Orvieto Piano Trio released a recording of works by Mendelssohn and Smetana. In 2008 his cello playing was recorded with John Brown’s Body on their album “Amplify”, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Reggae Chart. Daniel has performed in masterclasses for the Guarneri String Quartet, New Zealand String Quartet, members of Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society. Mr. Frankhuizen is Artistic Director and co-founder of Art House Ensemble, an exciting new chamber music ensemble that seeks to reshape the classical concert hall experience through innovative performances and programming. He holds a Masters degree in Music Performance from Purchase College where he studied with Julia Lichten. In his time away from the cello, Daniel enjoys arranging string quartet music and listening to vinyl records.
Chelsea Needham (violin, viola) is the director of the Strawberry fiddle group. She is a graduate of SUNY Fredonia majoring in music education. While at SUNY Fredonia, Chelsea had the great privilege to study under the watchful eye of David Rose on both Violin and Viola. Here she sat concertmaster of the College Symphony Orchestra, Opera orchestra and orchestra, all under the direction of Dr. David Rudge. She has performed as a classical soloist with a chamber Orchestra at Fredonia, The Hudson Valley Orchestral Studies School, and Arlington High School, NY. She is not only classically trained, but trained in other alternative fields such as Folk music and Jazz. She frequently gives presentations and workshops for the genres of American Scottish fiddle music, most recently giving a workshop at the Dance Flurry Festival, in Saratoga, NY. She has studied Scottish Folk Music under the direction of James Alexander, and performed at the folk festival at Speyfest in Fochabers, Scotland. She has studied both Classical and Folk Music with Emily Schaad and Rachel Handman. She has been named Grand Champion of the Celtic Classic in the Division, New England Fiddle Fest, and Blandford Fiddle Contest. She has performed with Artists such as: Jay Ungar, Molly Mason, Natalie McMaster, Bruce Molsky, Barry Miterhoff, Darol Anger, and Yo Yo Ma. Chelsea also has a long history with Stringendo. She was in the orchestra and fiddle program for 7 years. She was also a camper at Summer Strings for 5 years and a counselor for 6 years.
Stephen Minor (violin, viola) is a growing violinist who started his training at the age of 8. Originally from the Hudson Valley, he studied with violinist Rachel Handman and furthered his knowledge at SUNY Fredonia where he studied under Dr. David Colwell to fulfill a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance. While at SUNY Fredonia, he had the opportunity to participate in master classes with the Lincoln Trio, vocalist and pianist Dawn Upshaw and Gilbert Kalish, violinist Ana Milosalvjevic, and had the privilege to play with world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Stephen has had the opportunity to tour throughout New York State with the String Faculty of SUNY Fredonia as well as with his colleagues. As of May 2015, Stephen graduated with his Bachelor of Music degree and down the line hopes to continue his knowledge and obtain a Masters in Violin Performance. Stephen is an alumni of both the Strawberry Hill Fiddlers and the Orchestra School.
Danielle Stier (violin, viola), who grew up in the Hudson Valley, played for six years with Stringendo orchestras, including Vivace, as well with the Strawberry Hill Fiddlers. She continued her training at the State University of New York at Fredonia and then at the DePaul University School of Music, where she studied with Janet Sung and received her Bachelor of Music Cum Laude in Music Education and Violin Performance. At both universities she performed widely with chamber, symphonic and opera orchestras. She was also a member of the Baroque Ensemble at DePaul and participated for three summers in the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival (Burlington, Vermont) and another two summers at the Hot Springs Music Festival (Arkansas). Miss Stier has taught violin in high schools in Naperville, Illinois as well as in elementary schools in Chicago. Danielle has also received her Suzuki Certification for Violin Level 1 and taught beginning violin for Amadeus Strings in Poughkeepsie. She is a member of the American String Teachers Association.
Jacquelyn Timberlake is a violin and viola teacher as well as an active freelance musician. Jackie received a Bachelor’s of Music degree with a minor in Psychology from Ithaca College in 2012. During her time at Ithaca College, Jackie studied viola performance with Debra Moree and Suzuki violin pedagogy under Sandford Reuning. Jackie gave recitals, performed in chamber groups, and played with the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, serving as principal violist in the Symphony during her last semester. In the years following, Jackie has performed in professional ensembles such as the Binghamton Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, and various string quartets. Jackie has been teaching violin and viola lessons since 2009, and has experience working with a variety of levels, including beginners as young as 4, adult students, and more advanced high school players. Jackie was the violin teacher at the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts from 2012-2016 and had a home studio while living in Ithaca, NY. She also taught summer violin and viola lessons for Amadeus Strings during her college years. Jackie is a registered teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas and believes in continued teacher education. She recently completed further Suzuki training with Edward Kreitman in 2016. Jackie was a Stringendo student starting at the program’s inception and played with Vivace during her last three years of high school. She is excited to return to Stringendo as a violin and viola teacher after 8 years of studying and teaching music in Ithaca, NY.
